The future is bright when we have young people innovating bioluminescent algae solar panels, harnessing power from the ocean's waves, and multi-element renewable design. Read on to learn more about the future of Green Energy from our budding entrepreneurs.

Last year, we rounded out 2021 with a celebration of our Next Generation of Entrepreneurs, as they pitched their bright ideas for the future of Green Energy.

Our budding finalists, ranging from kids from years 5-10, each had three minutes to pitch their big idea in front of an audience. Each went home with a cool competition prize of $250-$500.

The competition opened with Maduricaa Yohanathon selling her design for solar-powered electric-bike (e-bike) charging stations. Designed to be set up in public parks, homes and apartments – charging all types of e-bikes with the power of the sun.

Harley Keith wowed us with the concept of bioluminescent algae, used to boost electricity production with light sensitive panels, designed for nighttime use and maximising output.

To follow, Matilda Green innovates electric autonomous cars to the next level, by using them to provide safety services to the community, by alerting authorities when crime prevails.

What about creating energy with tides? Melody Kelly harnesses the power of tides while providing other recreational facilities, such as a wave pool.

Lastly, Jaquin Perry capitalises on infrastructure already planned for off-shore wind farms – incorporating multi-element renewables into the design – combining wind, wave, solar and microturbines into a single structure.

We are proud to witness critical thinking, problem-solving skills and bold pitches by the young folks of Geraldton. We commend all the participants for their efforts and for being the stars of this competition.

A shout out to Daniel Johnsen, Lead Coach at an Entrepreneurs Residence. He came from Queensland to help our young people stay cool with their pitching techniques and MC’d the final competition. Thanks a bunch for all your contributions. We can't wait to have you back here again in the future.

Finally, this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all our amazing sponsors and partners, including premier sponsors, Australian Gas Infrastructure Group and ATCO, Rio Tinto, ILUKA, NBN Local, Pawsey Data Centre, Market Creations, Champion Bay SHS and Euphorium. A big thank you to all for making this competition a success!
