Industry leaders mentor the young

By Linda Liem

Enriching kids with innovation and inventive skills so they can be the next generation of industry leaders.

The intersection between industry content and creative problem solving continues with the NextGen competition.

Our young participants have been actively hanging out with industry experts. They've been tinkering, thinking, innovating, and enticing discussions about lots of different, weird and wonderful ideas.

Mike Barker, from E-Waste – pique's their interest with skull sessions about how inventions are powered, the transportation of resources and the truths of technological graveyards.

The kids digested innovative solutions to mitigate plastic waste, with Lids For Kids man, Reg Whitely. He also taught them how to link unconventionally about this global waste issue.

Lastly, NACC's Sustainable Agricultural Project Officer, Anna Cornell – shares knowledge about sustainable solutions in the Ag world. The kids brought a lot of grunt in terms of existing background knowledge. She allowed the kids to expand and provide feedback on ideas, while testing designs and ways to communicate creative thoughts.

A shoutout to Ruban Willis, Euphorium’s Operations Lead, for provoking the young ones to participate, think laterally and for providing a thriving creative space for the kids to workshop in.

A big thank you to all who've been involved in the background so far. It's going to be a cracker of a competition.

For those who are still tinkering away on their inventions, the competition closing date is creeping up like weeds. Entries close on the 31st October. There's a whopping $500 prize for the winner. Just like the lottery – you gotta be in it to win it!
