IGNITING COMMUNITY SPIRIT WITH GERO SOUP

By Linda Liem

What a great way to round-up a 2021 with our annual fundraising event.

We're over the moon with the successful turnout, raising 2k in cash + additional sponsorships! The folks of Gero gathered, to mingle and spread the love by contributing funds in form of milk caps to their favourite community projects.

The community initiatives include:

  • Midwest Carbon Zero - crowd fund the Sustainability Expo for 2022.

  • Regional Returnships - support the pilot of ‘Returnship’ for woman who are returning to skilled work.

  • Geraldton Toy Library - funding the purchase of non-gender bias toys for our community library.

  • Glassy Day Surfing - providing surfing lessons to support youth with mental health issues.

  • Greenough Wildlife Park - building an educational enclosure for endangered land turtles.

Hats off to Glassy Day Surfing, who went home with the biggest portion of the pot.

Greenough Wildlife Park also got their bang for their buck, with not only funds, but a glass sponsorship from Glass Co WA, for their turtle enclosure.

A round of applause to all our brave pitchers for standing up for an awesome cause.

This day was also Angie West's last shindig as Space Lead, so we all exchanged our farewells and wish her all the best with her next Kid's Hub adventures.

Same goes with Katarina Smelikova, who's stepping down from after three years as a Pollinators Board Member.

Thanks a bunch to both Angie and Kat for all your expertise and efforts in being part of the Pollinators journey.

A big thank you to Daniel Johnsen, Lead Coach at Entrepreneurs Residence, for mentoring our five pitchers, revving up the crowd with your Kentucky drawl and your superb fund hustling skills.

Lastly, a big shoutout to Lara Dalton MLA for sponsoring the event, Caitlin Flynn for supplying the delicious soup, Todd West and Robbie Garvey for bartending, Minna Rankine for the PA system and videography, Shah Arts for his awesome sign writing, Erfana for supplying yummy spring rolls and the skeleton Pollinators team for all your hours to make this thing happen.

We hope to bring y'all two Gero Soup events in the new year. Watch the space for more Gero Soup events.
