What is Traction?

Traction is for start-ups, people working on new ideas and ventures and businesses improving and innovating.

It’s a flexible program of mentoring, workshops and networking designed to help people test ideas, build momentum and work out what to do next.

You might have:

  • an idea you’ve been sitting on

  • a product or service you want to develop

  • something already underway

  • a business you’re trying to innovate or grow

At the centre of Traction is the Build Weekend — a focused working weekend where participants develop ideas, test thinking and access experienced founders, operators and mentors.

The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s progress.

The Traction Build Weekend

Friday, 5th June, 5pm - Sunday, 7th June 5pm

Cityhive, 184 Marine Terrace, Geraldton

A focused working weekend for people developing ideas, ventures, products, services and new directions.

Some participants arrive with an early-stage concept. Others already have something underway. Some are exploring a startup idea. Others are improving or growing an existing business.

The weekend creates something most people struggle to find in everyday life:

  • focused time, useful conversations and practical feedback from experienced people.

For one weekend, participants step out of the day-to-day and properly work on something they want to move forward.

Across the weekend participants:

  • test ideas and assumptions

  • refine how they explain what they’re building

  • access experienced founders, operators and mentors

  • pressure-test concepts and business thinking

  • identify opportunities, risks and next steps

  • build momentum around something real

Participants can work independently, with existing teams, or alongside collaborators they meet during the weekend.

The environment is practical, supportive and collaborative — more working session than conference.

The weekend concludes with pitches, drinks and conversations about where ideas go from here.

What Happens During the Weekend?

A short overview:

  • Friday = connection and momentum

  • Saturday = focused working sessions and mentor access

  • Sunday = refinement, presentations and next steps

The 2nd to the 14th of June is a fortnight of founder access, conversations and ecosystem engagement. Experienced mentors and entrepreneurs meeting 1:1 with the new business builders, sharing lessons and joining panels for conversations you won’t get anywhere else.

Workshops

A series of four evening sessions exploring the realities of building something new, from shaping and communicating an idea, to testing assumptions, building momentum and learning from others who have done it all before.

Is this worth building?

Bring an idea you’ve been sitting on - or come to help someone else pressure-test theirs. The whole room works through ideas together. Real questions. Real feedback. No theatre.

You don’t need a polished pitch. Just something real you’re thinking about. The goal is clarity

Learn how the decisions are actually made

In this session we hear directly from the people who review funding applications and investment opprtunities. It’s a panel conversation exploring what really makes applications stand out, with insights and practical lessons you won’t find online.

How to describe your idea so it creates momentum rather than confusion

One of the biggest challenges for founders and innovators is explaining what they are doing in a way that others understand.

This session allows attendees to test and refine how they talk about their idea in a supportive setting.

Build the kind of relationships that make ideas move forward

Behind almost every successful startup or growing business is a strong network of people. Real connections that provide advice, opportunities, introductions, encouragement and accountability.

Explore practical insights, useful conversations and new connections.
