A casual workshop enticing the audience with new graphics and projection terminology, but on a galvanising medium and scale.

On the opening night of Shore Leave, Pollinators hosted the first outdoor light projection workshop with our friends from VJZoo – Kat Black and Jasper Cook.

Running through the basics to the Resolume video jockey (VJ) software – we were all left inspired and in awe of what we could achieve with this visually thrilling medium.

We played around with projecting old vintage clips onto small physical canvases, such as polystyrene boxes and internal walls. Later, we took the gear out to the laneway for the real deal.

There's many technicalities to grasp, such as: masking, mapping, scaling, resolution, and mind-boggling terms like photogrammetry. Long story short, there's a lot of factors to think about when installing animated visual graphics and videos onto 3D objects.

On behalf of the whole Pollinators team, we would like to extend a big thank you to: The City of Greater Geraldton (CGG), The Government of Western Australia's Regional Economic Development Scheme through Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development (DPIRD) and the Mid West Development Commission, for supporting us on this outdoor projection light project.

Watch this space for more Outdoor Light Projection projects in the near future.
